First snowstorm of the winter in the province of Quebec !!! Youhou Laughing !!!

Today is the perfect day to do a snowman with the kids. To change the traditionnal carott’s nose and the rocky smile I have found a few ideas that will make your snowman and your christmas home decor uniques.

First, get some food colorant and mixt it with water in a vaporising bottle. With a few colors you can now do a red Santa, dears, christmas trees, stars, etc. If you want to carve snow, you will need a “sticky snow”. If the snow is to icy, it will not work well and if it is to dry, you will have to work more ! Easy solution to do a column or any form you want : take some soft cardboard (doesn’t need to be heavy duty), use paper clips or tape to attach the ends together and make your form, than just poor snow into it and toss it with your feet, wait an hour before carving. Carving tools do not have to be sharp, popsicle sticks could do a lot, as plastic covers or plastic knifes will do. Use your imagination to find yourself tools and to create a one of kind decor !

Plus, you can add some lights, cardboard characters (skating pinguins, a nativity scene, etc.), old plastic decorations could be restored with a little wax that will give them back their shiny look.

Easy, home decorations made with your kids for a dime !

If you do not have snow in your area maybe you could show your children what it is and take a little time to read the Santa story. Also, you could make yourself a sandman instead of a snowman, if your sand is wet enough, it will work. Paint 3 pumkins in white is another option.

Have fun !
